Dear
Spectator
Editorial Board,
Many thanks for your coverage of the Shenandoah-Kirkland Initiative’s event on Saturday, October 6 featuring Native rap artist Daygots, and Haudenosaunee dancer Chris Thomas and his team of Native dancers. Duncan Freeman did a great job with the article, and we appreciate the Spectator’s interest in — and highlighting of — SKI’s mission to connect the College more closely with its founding narrative in the friendship between Samuel Kirkland and the Oneida leader Shenandoah, out of which was born an attempt to create an educational institution which would be of benefit to American Indians.
Unfortunately the headline given to the article “Shenandoah-Kirkland Initiative and Oneida Nation to host community gathering on campus” offers readers the suggestion that the event was co-hosted by the two parties. In reality, SKI hosted the event and invited members of the Oneida Nation to attend, which I am happy to say, many did.
Thank you for the opportunity to correct any possible misperceptions about the nature of the October 6 event.
