Both children from the Utica area, as well as the children of Hamilton faculty, enjoyed an evening of plentiful trick-or-treating.
Trick-or-Treating stations for the children were set up throughout campus, bringing kids to academic buildings, residence halls, and organizations, where those running the stops dressed up and hand out candy to the excited visitors.
The children donned their costumes ranging from the traditional to the peculiar, including ghosts, superheros, dinosaurs and fictional characters.
This annual event was established by the Class of ’92 after the loss of a classmate, Eric Trust, on the Halloween of his freshmen year. Trust passed away due to health complications.
The event has since been hosted by the Newman Council to honor his memory and bring together the community.
“I love helping out with this event. It makes me nostalgic about my child-
hood, and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces was more than worth it.” said Caroline Paulson ’21. “Having our entire organization [the Philanthropy Club] hand out candy together allowed for us to meet some of the children of the community.”
This year, the Trust Treat took place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with students, including both the men’s and women’s basketball teamns, leading groups of children from stop to stop. Organizations and independent stops decorated various room and interacted with the kids as they came to each stop.
Usually, Trust Treat sees around 200 children going around to each stop, as well as stopping by sponsored haunted houses in the area.
The children, along with their student guides, traveled around campus in full costume attire, ready for the night.
Trust Treat provided a fun and safe Halloween night for children in the area and also allowed for students on campus to interact with the wider community and share in the spirit of the holiday, as well as remember a past student of the Hamilton community.
