In Response to “Letter to the editor: a message from Gillian King”
To the Editors of the Spectator & Secretary Gillian King,
First, we want to thank Secretary King for her quick response to our letter to the editor in last week’s issue. We sincerely wish that we could have received as thorough a response to any of our previous protests from the Office of the President or the Board of Trustees.
With the information that Secretary King’s letter supplies, we are hopeful then that the attached screenshots can be explained. We received these screenshots of emails from students who were invited to a lunch with Trustees in Buttrick Hall, and then, as you can see, the location was changed after we first announced our rally to take place outside. Though we anonymized the email for their privacy, we stand by these emails’ authenticity.
To be clear, we have not been simply sitting on this information for a year now. As we stated in our letter to the editor, we tried to get further clarity on the location of the lunches from President Wippman late last spring, but he ignored our questions. Additionally, we later gave this information to our members during the summer and Eric later shared this info with a Spec reporter after the State of the College Address. We are only coming forward with it as part of our reflection on the last protest rally to take place a year ago now since transparency from the college administration and Board of Trustees has only continued to be an issue.
Sincerely,
Madison Lazenby, Sunrise Hamilton Hub Coordinator
