The “Weekly Unsolicited” features advice that no one asked for, but everyone needs.
1. If you are unmotivated to do work, and the deadline is fast approaching, listen to “Tense Negotiations” on Youtube or any similar playlist. It truly is a tense experience and, when paired with caffeine, will get your heart pumping enough to finish your work. For extra pressure and intensity, increase the speed of the playlist to 1.25x speed.
2. Insecure about the dark circles under your eyes? Try brewing some tea with black or green tea bags. Take out the tea bags after they have been moderately steeped and let them cool in a cup of ice in the fridge. After 15–20 minutes, place the tea bags on your eyes and let them rest for around 10 minutes. It will be a refreshing experience!
3. If you are new to citing in Chicago Style, here are two quick tips: you can insert footnotes on Google Docs by going to Insert → Footnotes. To create hanging indents for your works cited, go to Format → Align & Indent → Indentation options → Special Indent → Hanging → Apply.
4. Tired of listening to Spotify ads? Get an ad blocker on your browser and open Spotify on their web page instead of the app. This tip only works on a laptop, but you can also block YouTube ads the same way.
5. When you sign up for anything online, try putting the website’s name as your middle name. Whenever you get spam or advertising emails, you will know which website sold your information. Be safe on the internet and protect your info!
