On Tuesday Mar. 12 Hamilton’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) announced Swedish electronic dance DJ duo Galantis will headline the Class & Charter Day Concert on Friday, May 10. The long-awaited announcement was posted through a video on CAB’s Facebook page.
Galantis is best known for their hit songs “Runaway (U & I),” “Peanut Butter Jelly,” and “No Money.”
“When we first pursued [Galantis] last year there was so much excitement about the possibility of them headlining Class & Charter, and after working on this for two years we promise the wait will be worth it,” said Julia
Opatrny ’20 and Joshua Rothstein ’19, CAB’s Concert Coordinators. “They have headlined all over the world and played major music festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, The Governors Ball, and Ultra, so to be able to bring a world class act like them here is so exciting,”
Pop singer Rozes will open for Galantis. Rozes is well known for her collaborations with the Chainsmokers and Galantis themselves.
“Our students probably first got to know Rozes when she sang on The Chainsmokers’ song “Roses,” but many are familiar with her song “Halfway There,” which served as the official anthem for the 2019 Women’s March. We love her and everything she stands for, and can’t wait to watch her perform,” said Opatrny and Rothstein.
Juice, one of Hamilton’s student bands, will kick-off the concert before Rozes’s performance. “Juice has been killing it all year and we’re so pumped to be giving them a larger platform,” said Opatrny and Rothstein. Juice features Peter Briccetti ’19 on vocals, Chris Hart ’19 on bass, Hudson Smith ’21 on keys, Linds Cadwell ’20 and Reed Johnson ’19 on guitar, and Opatrny ’20 on drums.
The Class & Charter Day Concert will take place on Friday, May 10. The show will start at 4:00 PM, with doors opening at 3:30 PM. While the show is free for all Hamilton students, it is not open to the public. The location will be announced at a later date.
“We understand that there is added excitement for this show and that many alumni and friends of friends are interested in attending. We are working on a guest policy, so stay tuned for that in addition to our T-shirt sale coming after break!” said Opatrny and Rothstein.
Hamilton students were ecstatic upon hearing the announcement.
Genny Cohen ’21 shared Goldstein’s sentiment: “I’ve been listening to Galantis for years and voted for them to be the C&C performer last year, so I actually screamed when I saw CAB’s announcement on their Facebook page last night. I can’t wait to see them in concert in May!”
Lili Christie ’19 thinks Galantis is the perfect duo to headline her final Class & Charter Day Concert as a student. Christie said, “I was incredibly stoked watching the CAB video. I’ve been looking forward to having a DJ for Class & Charter Day ever since I was a freshman, and Galantis could not be a better choice!”
