On Saturday, Nov. 10, the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the 2018 NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championship at Gloucester County DREAM Park in Logan Township, N.J.
The women’s team was led by Grace Heller ’19, who finished in 11th place among 305 other athletes. Heller finished a six-kilometer race with a time of 23:01. Her performance over the weekend earned her second consecutive all-region women’s cross country award. Heller earned the same award in 2017, which is an honor given to athletes who finish among the top 35 runners at one of these eight regional sites across the nation.
Heller’s performance also earned her a bid to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 17. The meet will be held at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, W.I.
Overall, the Continentals finished in 8th place at the NCAA regional meet out of the 44 other teams competing. In 40th place with a personal-record time of 23:44.8 was Andy Uribe ’19. Additionally, with a time of 24:12.6, was Brigit Humphreys ’21 came in 60th place; Liza Greene ’22 in 72nd place with a time of 24:52.2; and Mia Schiel ’22 in 76th place with a time of 24:27.3. Haley Driscoll ’21 was close behind in 92nd place with a finishing time of 24:48.
The women’s team is nationally-ranked after this weekend’s performance at #8 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Regional rankings.
Meanwhile, the men’s cross country team placed 14th overall in NCAA regional meet on Saturday morning among 45 other teams. The team was led by Lucas Wright ’21, who came in 40th place out of 307 runners. Wright finished with an 8-kilometer time of 27:17.
In 50th place, with a time of 27:28.5, was Bryce Murdick ’20. Nick Lyon ’22 finished in 91st place with a time of 28:11.7. Max Steffey ’22 finished in 94th place with a time of 28:15. Colin Horgan ’19 finished in 103rd at 28:22.1. Peter Ross ’20 finished with 28:35 in 124th place. Chris Skeldon ’20 came in at 141st place with a time of 28:47.1.
This weekend marked the men’s and women’s final tournament of the fall 2018 season.
