Dear Hamilton Community,
Brrrr—it’s cold out here! So cold, in fact, that we’ve all just lived through a truly unprecedented 48-hour snow day. We hope that your time away from the normal early weekday grind was full of sledding, snowperson building, hot cups of cocoa, frolicking and a general sense of childlike wonder. But for those of you who are anti-snow (and anti-fun), you’re in luck—a wave of rain storms will be hitting the Hill later this week and into the next, so be sure to say your goodbyes to our winter wonderland before it devolves into a hell of sludge and ice.
In other news, we take great pride in our timely reporting of campus announcements, but we have to hand it to The Daily Bull for making known our next Great Names speaker on January 30, weeks ahead of the formal confirmation. If you somehow missed the big break, former President Barack Obama will be speaking as part of the Sacerdote Great Names series on April 3—check your emails for ticket details!
Also make sure to keep an eye out for a slew of fun events coming to campus this week. On Friday, Feb. 22, join the Writing Center for its “Multilingual Writing Showcase” to celebrate multilingual writing and cheer on your friends. If you’re looking for some late night fun on Friday night, make sure to stop by “All Aboard the Soul Train!” at 10 p.m. in the Events Barn for an evening of dancing to 70s disco and soul train music alongside a full bar! Later in the week, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, Common Ground will be hosting its first “All Campus Student Debate” to discuss the question of whether environmental protections are more important than economic growth—RSVP to ensure that your voice is heard (and to eat some free Chipotle)!
Speaking of making your voice heard… if you have an opinion (on almost any topic) that you’ve been dying to share to a larger audience, consider writing an opinion piece (of roughly 600 words) to be featured in The Spectator. Please send your opinion by email to [email protected] for consideration.
Stay warm,
The Spectator
