For many school breaks, Hamilton offers “alternative” break trips, in which students volunteer in places all over the country to assist with various issues and causes. The program has been a huge success in years past, and this year, Alternative Breaks, titled “AXB,” is looking to make some exciting changes.
Last year, AXB expanded its offerings, including Fall Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break options. Student Director Sabrina Gattine ’18 spoke further about changes that have taken place this year, including a Fall Break trip. Gattine said of the trip, “eight students went to Double H in the Adirondacks to help out with their Family Memorial Weekend and it sounds like it was a big hit!”
For the upcoming breaks, both Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks, Gattine spoke about what the program has planned. While AXB does not have a trip planned for Thanksgiving Break, Gattine thinks this may be the program’s next venture. As for Winter Break, Gattine claimed, “We’re planning on sending a group to Florida to help with hurricane disaster relief. This trip can take up to ten students and will be running at the end of Winter Break.”
For this year’s Spring Break, the program’s original venture, Gattine says there are exciting and more expansive options for students. The program will be running a total of six trips, including Habitat for Humanity, environmental conservation and community outreach-based trips.
If you are already busy over Winter Break, be sure to sign up for one of AXB’s Spring Break trips if you want to be a part of incredible work.
