The Hamilton Outing Club led 25 trips on their annual 46 Peaks Weekend from Saturday, Oct. 1, to Sunday, Oct. 2. Trips ranged from six to 17 miles, with seven of those being overnight backpacking trips. Overall, they reached 39 of the 46 peaks.
The 46 peaks, located in the Adirondack High Peaks region, are the tallest mountains across the state, and each boasts an elevation over 4,000 ft. HOC has been leading trips to attempt summiting every peak in a single weekend since 2007.
This year, there were 42 HOC leaders guiding the trips, with 20 shadow leaders joining as part of their training.
Students sign themselves up for trips by talking to the trip leaders and choosing the right fit,” explained Amanda Gilsten. “This year we did some trip rearranging to make sure that we had trips going to each peak and that they would have sufficient transportation and parking.”
