Women’s volleyball won their first game of the season this weekend in their home opener against St. Lawrence University on Friday evening. They entered a winning streak, winning the next two matches on Sunday. This brought their season record to 3–4. This strong weekend should help momentum going into the team’s first conference game.
The Continentals defeated the St. Lawrence University Saints in three sets (25–19, 25–22, 25–16) on Friday in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House to kick off the first homestand of the season. Hamilton, 0–4 going into the match, handed the Saints their fifth consecutive loss of the season, dropping them to 1–5. Elodie McGeiver ’27 led Hamilton with 19 kills, 11 more than the next highest Continental. She is now third in the NESCAC with 3.40 per set, as of September 13. She added 11 digs, two service aces, and a solo block.
The Continentals led St. Lawrence in kills (43–26), errors (18–20), attempts (116–113), hitting percent (.216-.053), assists (39–24), and points (50–41). The only categories in which the Saints led were aces (4–8) and blocks (3–7). The Continentals scored the last nine out of eleven points in the final game to complete the sweep
The first game of the Saturday double-header was against Keuka College (3–5) with Hamilton winning in three sets (25–13, 25–17, 25–20). The final set was the closest but two key kills by Kendall Scholz ’27 and Kathryn Fox ’27 secured the sweep.
Drew Stimson ’25 led the Continentals with eight kills and three blocks while Claire Cooper ’26 dished out a career-best 24 assists. Ayzlinn Trefren ’28 led Hamilton with 14 digs and added two aces. The Continentals led Keuka in every meaningful statistical category. Hamilton showed complete control in the match over Keuka.
This dominating win did not slow Hamilton down as they set out for their third win of the weekend. Hamilton’s hardest game of the weekend approached as they played against SUNY Morrisville (5–3), winning in four sets (25–17, 16–25, 25–23, 25–15) on Saturday. This was the Continental’s first win against an above .500 team. A close set three was won narrowing thanks in part to a key kill by Maggie Nichols ’26 and two Mustang attacking errors. Set four involved an early 7–1 lead allowing the Continentals to cruise to victory.
McGeiver led the Continentals with 17 kills and had a pair of service aces. She is on pace to beat last season’s team record for kills. Stimson tied her career high for the second time this season with 16 kills. She put up a team-best three blocks. Cerda ’26 dished out a career-high 49 assists. SUNY Morrisville had 37 total attempts. This puts Cerda a third of the way to last season’s record, despite being only five games in.
The weekend marks the first win streak of the volleyball season and matches last season’s longest win streak of three. The team hopes to build on this after an average season last fall, going 10–10 on the season and 4–6 in the NESCAC. Hamilton plays its NESCAC opener at Tufts University (3–5) on Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m.
