As of Tuesday, April 19, all nearby quarantine hotels are at capacity. Any students who test positive will have to temporarily isolate in their own room while the College tries to locate more hotels.
Any students who live in single rooms, or whose roommates have previously tested positive for COVID-19 this semester, will not be transported off campus. They will isolate in their own bedrooms, and will only be allowed to leave to go to the bathroom or pick up food.
Suitemates do not count as roommates (only people living in a double are roommates to each other). The COVID-19 Taskforce said that people isolating in a suite must not spend time in common rooms, although they may walk through their suite or other suites to access the bathroom. Additionally, students must take “the most direct path to the designated isolation bathroom and should be wearing a mask at all times while traveling between their bedroom and bathroom,” said Ashley Place, director of Residential Life.
One bathroom in each residence hall has been designated as an Isolation Bathroom for the exclusive use of students with COVID-19. In residence halls like Carnegie, Ferguson, Griffin Road apartments, Morris House, Skenandoa and South that have private bathrooms, students will use their own.
Isolation bathrooms will be equipped with cleaning wipes, and students are to sanitize surfaces before and after using them. All other students must go to a different bathroom, even if they must walk to a different floor or area of the building.
Takeout food is now provided at The Little Pub for those students who are isolating on-campus or are waiting for transportation. Entering any other dining halls is not allowed. Students on campus will not receive the $70 daily GrubHub stipend that is provided to those in hotels.
The taskforce asks any students who are experiencing symptoms to request a rapid test from the Health Center instead of waiting for the next mandatory testing date, then upload their results to the Health Portal immediately.
