The Hamilton men’s lacrosse team found success this week, defeating Colby College 17–9 on Saturday March 9 on Withiam Field and the Utica College Pioneers 18–5 on Monday in Utica, N.Y. Henry Hunt ’20 carried the Continentals on the week, scoring five goals on Saturday and four on Monday.
Hunt lead the team over the weekend with twelve goals in three games played. Chad Morse ’19 added five goals and three assists to Saturday’s win against Colby, a career-high for the senior attack.
Despite the high number of tallies from Hunt and Morse, Hamilton received solid play from a wide range of players. Henry Hill ’19 notched three goals in Saturday’s win, while Ben Gardner ’21, Andrew Cox ’20, Zach Larsen ’20, Chris Conley ’20 contributed a goal apiece.
On Monday in Utica, first-year players shined as Quinlan Crowley ’22 and Patrick McDermott ’22 teamed up to 20 of 27 faceoffs.
Hill, William Braun ’22, Owen McCarthy ’20, and Britt DeFeo ’22 and Ryan Friedman ’22 contributed two goals each, while Conley, Gardner, Matt Mirkovic ’22 and Charlie Ratner ’22 added one each.
In the 2018 season, the men went 2–13, dropping a close game to Colby early in the season. Meanwhile, the Continentals have defeated Utica for the Traveling Trophy for eight years in a row.
At 2–1 so far this year, the team is already seeing improvements and strong contributions from its youngest members.
John Ennis ’19 and Hauken Washington ’22 have caused eleven turnovers, while Crowley scooped eighteen ground balls on the week.
Looking ahead, there is no doubt that the Continental’s toughest competition will come in the NESCAC.
As of now, the Continentals have four more chances to win a NESCAC game at home.
On the schedule for March and April, the Continentals will be facing Amherst, Trinity, Williams, and Connecticut College. The specific dates of these games can be found on the Hamilton athletics website, along with their respective locations.
This Saturday March 16 the Continentals hope to continue rolling as they travel to Brunswick, M.E. to face-off against the Bowdoin Polar Bears at 1 PM.
