The Class of 2023 has officially selected a winning design for their class banner. Going forward, all four banners for each class year will hang on the wall above Euphoria in the Sadove atrium.
“The class banners help cultivate a stronger, more vibrant Hamilton community,” said Student Assembly President Amanda Kim ’21. “The banners serve as a symbol of class identity and represent the class year indefinitely at school events, including graduation and alumni reunions.”
Class banners are a new addition to the College, having been established as a tradition in fall 2018. This year, for the Class of 2023, Student Assembly received submissions for banner designs and voted on their favorite option.
“Students from each class, at the beginning of freshman year, can submit original designs,” said Kim. “Their Student Assembly class delegation then votes to pick the winner.”
Emily Fienco ’23 created the winning design for the Class of 2023’s banner.
In a statement accompanying her submission, Fienco said, “I see the Class of 2023 as fun, versatile, and constantly on the move. I wanted the design to represent our ‘flow’ and the creative, modern approach we’re going to take on campus. We possess exciting energy and it just felt right!”
The inspiration for her design came from her fellow Hamilton students who, Fienco says, “possess passion and drive, and who are always down for a fun time. Being a part of the Class of 2023 is exciting, we bring change and a new perspective on campus. We all have a lot of love to give and a lot of vitality to put to work.”
Juliet Davidson ’23, Class of 2023 president, expressed excitement about Fienco’s design and the other submissions Student Assembly received. “From the instant I saw Emily’s design, I knew it was ‘the one,’” she said. “Aside from being super groovy, the design is unlike any of its predecessors, much like our class. It’s vibrant, unexpected, and something I think everyone can enjoy!”
Davidson echoes Fienco’s comments on the “enthusiastic, passionate vibe” of her class, saying, “The friends I’ve made here are just as interesting as they are funny. I get the sense that people here care and that our class, with its diverse thinking and compassion, will contribute immensely to the community and be a gaggle or friendly, lively faces.”
