
The regular season for fall varsity sports is beginning to wrap up for the Continentals along with their NESCAC opponents. Overall, the Hamilton fall teams had successful seasons and many teams will be heading to compete in the postseason. The first round of the fall playoffs begin this weekend, with many teams eagerly waiting to find out who their first round opponents will be.
The women’s soccer team concluded their regular season this past weekend with a 2–0 win against NESCAC opponent Connecticut College. The team received many accolades this season and was recently ranked the 10th-best DIII team in the New England region by the NCAA. The Continentals finished the season with a 5–4–1 NESCAC record and are currently ranked 5th in the conference. The team is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, but the results of the game this Wednesday between Wesleyan and Connecticut College will determine their final seeding in the quarterfinals.
The men’s soccer team also concluded their regular season on Saturday with a 3–0 loss to Connecticut College. The Continentals are now preparing for the playoffs once they find out who and where they will play in the quarterfinals.
The seedings will be determined after Amherst and Trinity play each other for the final conference matchup this Wednesday. The team has gained considerable confidence this season and are ranked as the 11th-best DIII team in New England by the NCAA. They are currently in 7th place in the NESCAC, which means they will most likely play a 1, 2, or 3 seed in the first round of the playoffs depending on the results of the final game this Wednesday.
The field hockey team also had a historical season, with Michaela Giuttari ’20 breaking both the records for career goals and career points. Giuttari currently has 54 career goals and 131 career points. The team will play their final regular season game this Wednesday at home on Goodfriend field in a non-conference game against the University of Rochester. The NESCAC field hockey playoffs follow an eight-team format, and the Continentals are currently in 7th place. Their final seeding will be determined after two more conference matchups are played this Wednesday.
The volleyball team has their final two regular season games on Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 2, on their home court against Amherst College and Middlebury College, respectively. The Continentals secured a place in the NESCAC tournament following their win over Connecticut College on Friday, Oct. 25. Their seed in the playoffs will be determined by their performance over the two conference opponents this upcoming weekend.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will be racing in the NESCAC Championships this Saturday, Nov. 2 in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The cross country team and many other fall teams are eagerly awaiting the playoffs in hopes of bringing back a NESCAC title to Clinton. As any sports fan knows, anything can happen in the playoffs.
