On Apr. 27th, Hamilton’s Men’s and Women’s Track and Field team competed at the NESCAC Championships at Middlebury College. The men’s team finished eighth and the women’s team ranked sixth. Though championship season is technically over, multiple Continentals will run at regionals next week — a few of whom have national aspirations.
At NESCACs, Lucas Wright ’21 raced a courageous 800 meter and captured a decisive first place in a time of 1:52.42, adding more to the team’s point total by anchoring the 4×400 meter relay — which finished seventh. Sam Robinson ’20 netted a solid amount of points with his fourth place finish in both the 100 and 200 meter dash and the 4×100 meter, rounded out with Ryan Sedwick ’19, Will Richardson ’21, and Jake Bolster ’19, which placed sixth.
Richardson took home fifth in the 400 meter hurdles. Rounding out Hamilton’s point-scorers was Bryce Murdick ’20, who captured eighth in the men’s 1,000 meter run.
On the women’s side, Cat Berry ’19 captured NESCAC MVP behind three first-place finishes in the 4×100, 200 meter dash, and 400 meter dash. Berry, Marie Steiner ’20, Caitlin McHugh ’20, and Mary Lundin ’19 landed eighth in the 4×400 meter relay. Lundin netted another top five finish for the Continentals by placing fourth in the 800 meter dash, and Steiner took fourth and third in the 100 and 200 meter dashes respectively. Grace Heller ’19 added a solid number of points with her seventh place finish in the Women’s 1000 meter run.
Despite unfavorable conditions all season, Wright, Richardson, Robinson, Berry, Diamond Jackson ’21, McKela Kanu ’22, Lundin, and Heller all qualified for Atlantic Regionals May 15th and 16th. Wright and Berry have their eyes on Nationals in the 800 and 400, respectively.
Anchored by a solid senior class and talented underclassmen, Hamilton Track and Field produced a positive season’s worth of results — while setting themselves up for many milestones to come.
