Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team will be looking to build on their impressive regular season, NESCAC tournament and NCAA tournament success over the past few years. The team graduated four of their five starters from the 2018–19 season, but they still have significant talent and experience left. They are returning their leading scorer, Kena Gilmour ’20, who earned NABC First Team All-American honors following last season. Other players who will surely contribute as leaders this season include fellow seniors Sayo Denloye ’20 and Mark Lutz ’20.
Women’s Basketball
Women’s basketball is adding three first-year players and one sophomore transfer to their roster this season and are working towards success in the competitive NESCAC conference following a winless conference record during their 2018–19 season. Almost all of their NESCAC contests were lost by fewer than 10 points. The team is luckily returning most of their highest scorers from last year, including Marie Steiner ’20, Liz Arnold ’22, Carly O’Hern ’20 and Kelcie Zarle ’22, and with their new talent, they have a great chance to finish towards the top of the conference.
Men’s Hockey
Men’s hockey finished the 2018–19 year with a very solid 10–5–3 conference record before losing in overtime to Trinity College in the NESCAC Championship semifinal. They will definitely be working to build on last season and hopefully get even deeper into the playoffs. Unfortunately, their top two leading scorers both graduated in 2019, but they are also returning All-NESCAC Second Team selection Nick Rutigliano ’22 and many other important pieces from last season.
Women’s Hockey
Women’s hockey is gaining eight first years to make up for the loss of five senior players from last year. They are definitely motivated to meet and exceed their conference record of 9–5–2 and a loss in the NESCAC Championship semifinal. One player who will greatly contribute to the team again this year is forward and leading scorer Nancy Loh ’22, who earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NESCAC honors following her impressive play all season.
Men’s Squash
The men’s squash team looks to improve upon their 4–14 record this season. They have 5 seniors this year whose leadership and skill will be a force for the Continentals. Among them is Callum Sondhi ’20 who competed at the National Individual Championship last year and received second team all-NESCAC honors. Additionally, nationally-ranked first-year Tate Suratt ’23 is expected to make an immediate impact on the team. The men play their first match against Middlebury at home on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Women’s Squash
The women’s squash team went 11–9 last season and hope to continue their success this season. Until January the team will be solely underclassman led by Sydney Soloway ’22, Ellie Struthers ’22, and Maddie Sakheim ’22. Soloway, who played fourth and fifth positions last season, looks to be a top player for the Continentals this fall. The sophomores are joined by a strong freshman class of Hope Worcester ’23, Natalie Harrity ’23, and Katie Hodulik ’23.The women will play NESCAC powerhouse Middlebury for their opening match at home Nov. 16.
Men’s Swim and Dive
The men’s swim team, who went 0–3 against NESCAC opponents last season, hope to find their stride this year. The team will be led by senior Evan Dodes ’20 and juniors Ben Kaplan ’21 and Sandro Mariani ’21. The Continental team is made up by a large, sophomore class with a lot of potential. Nick Wilkins ’22 had a very successful NESCAC Championships last year, joining the team’s Top 10 Times list in two events, and hopes to continue his record-breaking career. The men’s team will face local opponent Utica College in their first meet of the season Oct.15.
Women’s Swim and Dive
The women’s swim and dive team hopes to have a stronger season in the 2019–2020 school year, following their 11th place finish at the NESCAC championships. The team is led by seniors Hana Lindsey ’20, Sadie Logan ’20, and Renee Varga ’20. Logan was the top performer the Continentals last year at the NESCAC championships with a 10th overall finish in the 50-yard backstroke.
