Saturday, March 1, the five-seed Continentals traveled to fourth-ranked Bowdoin for the NESCAC Womens Hockey Championship quarterfinal. While Hamilton was ranked lower than Bowdoin, the Continentals had a quiet confidence, having swept the season series against the Polar Bears a few weeks prior.
The first period started quickly, with Hamilton firing several shots in the game’s first five minutes. However, in the fifth minute, Hamilton’s Abby Weiss ’25 received a hooking penalty, granting the Polar Bears their first power play. Bowdoin immediately capitalized on the early power-play opportunity as Luna Lu ’27 scored off the rebound, giving the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead.
Both teams continued to exchange shots throughout the second period, but none found their way into the net. With under nine minutes remaining in the second period, the Continentals were given a two-minute power play where they ripped several more shots, none of which made it past Bowdoin’s goalie. As the power play ended, Jamie Porter ’28 gathered the loose puck near the left corner and snapped it to Ali Joseph ’25, who slapped the puck around the boards, sending it to the point from the right faceoff circle. Cuora Sullivan ’26 received the pass and unloaded a shot that Porter ’28 deflected into the goal, tying the score 1-1. Two minutes later, Hamilton’s Lilly Truchon ’26 battled for the puck in the corner, flinging it around the end boards where Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ’25 possessed the puck and fired a shot from the left faceoff circle to give the Continentals a 2-1 lead.
Both teams exchanged shots for the remainder of the game, but both defenses stood firm. The Polar Bears made a last-minute push at the end of the third period, ripping four shots in the final minutes. However, the Continentals outlasted Bowdoin for a 2-1 victory.
This Saturday, March 8, Hamilton will travel to Amherst to face the one-seed Mammoths in the NESCAC Womens Hockey Championship Semifinal. The Continentals wrapped up their season by playing a doubleheader in Amherst, dropping both games. Despite being swept, Hamilton is fueled with confidence for a potential upset.
The one-seed Mens Hockey team hosted Connecticut College at Russell Sage Rink for the NESCAC Mens Hockey Championship quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton had a great start to the game, maintaining firm possession for the first five minutes and firing a series of shots. While none broke the net, the Continentals’ aggressive offense was on display. With four minutes left in the first period, Ben Zimmerman ’26 passed the puck up the ice, where John Wojciechowski ’28 slapped a low puck into the net, giving Hamilton an early 1-0 lead.
A minute later, Jackson Krock ’26 gathered a loose puck, dribbling up the ice where he flicked a backhander towards the net, bouncing off the Camels’ goaltender’s back for a goal. Midway through the second period, Krock collected the puck deep in Hamilton’s defensive zone and skated up the right-side boards, where he cut across the right faceoff circle, getting the goaltender to bite, and flicked the puck in the net, notching his second goal of the day and extending the Continentals’ lead to three.
Late in the second period, the Camels were able to tally a goal, but the Continentals responded immediately. Noah Leibl ’27 maneuvered around defenders, passing the puck to Justin Biraben ’27, who tapped the puck past the goalie, granting Hamilton a 4-1 lead into the third period.
Hamilton maintained their 4-1 lead for most of the third period until a power-play goal for the Camels reduced the lead to two with six minutes to go. The Camels pulled their goalie with 2:30 remaining to put pressure on the Continentals but could not score. After the Camels attempted a couple of shots, Leibl stole the puck and was left untouched, skating in the puck for the clinching goal, leading Hamilton to a 5-2 victory.
The team swept the 2025 NESCAC end-of-season awards, taking home three of the four main awards. Luke Tchor ’27 was named Player of the Year, the fifth player ever to receive the award from Hamilton and the first since 2017. Charlie Archer ’25 was named Defensive Player of the Year and Rob Haberbusch was recognized as Coach of the Year. This is the fourth time a Hamilton coach has collected the award, the last being in 2017 by Haberbusch. Tchor and Archer were joined on the all-NESCAC first team by teammates Nick Kent ’27, James Philpott ’25 and Krock. Of the eight all-NESCAC first team players, five are from Hamilton. No school had more on the first or second team combined.
The Continentals will host championship weekend at Sage Rink for the second time (the other being in 2017). On Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m., Hamilton will host Middlebury in the semifinals, where they look to avenge their season finale loss. Despite dropping their final game to the Panthers, the Continentals defeated Middlebury 6-0 at home earlier this season. The championship game will be held at Sage Rink on Sunday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m.
If you were unable to snag tickets, students can buy them online for three dollars from the NESCAC website. Tickets to the final on Sunday will be given out in limited supply before the game at noon if Hamilton makes the championship. Paid tickets can be bought at the door for three dollars cash.
