Hamilton’s club sports are the lifeblood of campus life, yet they often don’t get the attention they deserve due to the prominence of varsity athletics. Whether you’re a f irst-year student or a senior, these teams offer a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and have fun! The Spectator wants to shine a light on just a few of the incredible club sports available on campus. While this list doesn’t include every sport or club, it offers a snapshot of what’s out there. For example, while there isn’t a formal club basketball team, there is a basketball club that holds open gyms and weekly scrimmages. If there’s a sport you want to try or continue at Hamilton and don’t see it listed here, feel free to email The Spec tator sports editor team or check out the club fair to see what’s offered!
Club Water Polo
Can you swim? If yes, consider joining Water Polo! No prior experience is required to become part of the Hamilton College Water Polo Club. Founded in the spring of 2009, the team is open to all students and focuses on skill development and intercollegiate competition. The team competes every fall in the competitive New York Division (facing schools like Columbia, Colgate, Cornell, NYU and Syracuse), with practices held several times a week and weekend travel to tournaments across the state.
Women’s Rugby Football Club
Women’s Rugby is a no-cuts, no-try outs club—everyone plays! Most members join with no previous experience. The team practices Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Minor Field. If you’ve seen a smiling, muddy table in McEwen, you’ve probably seen the Women’s Rugby team after practice! They compete in the Upstate New York Collegiate Rugby Conference (UNY CRC) during both fall and spring.
Ultimate Frisbee Team
Hamilton’s Ultimate Frisbee team is a spirited and inclusive community for players of all experience levels. The team practices outdoors Monday through Friday for two hours in both fall and spring. In the fall, they attend several open and women’s tournaments in the Northeast. During the winter, practices move indoors two to three times per week. In the spring, the team competes in the Metro East USAU College Series. Last year, the women’s team reached regionals, and the men’s team made it to nationals in Texas! Women’s Club Soccer
Women’s Club Soccer—or “Cloc cer”—offers students a chance to play without the pressures of varsity competition. All skill levels are welcome! The team plays other colleges from around the area in the fall and spring. The team’s first game is this Saturday against Colgate.
Men’s Rugby Club
Men’s Rugby is one of the largest and, according to its members, most fun club sports on campus. No prior experience is necessary—new players are always welcome! The team competes in the Upstate Small College Rugby Conference (UpSCRC), part of the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO). Practices take place Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Minor Field during both the fall and spring seasons.
Club Figure Skating
The figure skating team provides a safe and fun space for skaters of all levels to learn and refine their craft. They practice three times a week (once Sage Rink opens) and spend that time choreographing a routine to perform at the Citrus Bowl, the biggest event on campus! Novice skaters and seasoned professionals are invited to join. Many club sports require a physical exam to be cleared for practices and games, so be sure to check requirements before participating. Even if you’re not interested in playing, consider coming out to support your classmates and friends as they show off their skills and have a great time
