
Over the summer, the Root Farm House demolition took place in preparation for a new construction project. The new Health Services and Student Counseling Facility will stand in place of the old farm house on College Hill Road. Construction of the new building is underway.
According to Associate Vice President for Facilities and Planning, Steve Bellona, the construction for the building is a single phase project. Currently, the contractor is removing soil so as to prepare for installation of the building’s foundation.
Once the foundation is completed, the team will begin moving vertically with the steel construction of the building. As part of the new building’s contsruction, eight wells for the geothermal system were installed as well.
In addition to the removal of the Farm House, several other projects were both started and completetd this summer.
Currently, the construction of the Health Services and Student Counciling Facility is the largest project taking place on campus.
“We finished up a robust summer construction effort between May and the start of the academic year,” said Bellona.
These included: the completion of the renovation to Root Residence Hall, including a new heating system, kitchenettes, bathrooms and new windows. Works were also completed in both South and Babbitt Residence Halls. Pritchard Track was also replaced with a new running surface.
Additionally, the roofs on Beinecke, Little Pub, the Events Barn, Benedict Hall, AlCC and the Days-Massolo were completeted. Replacment of the roofs on Roger’s Estate and the diner are in progress.
In Bundy East and Bundy Dining Hall, the eletrical system was upgraded. Furthermore, a myriad of other smaller maintence and renewal efforts with campus building and the underground utility system took place. More specifically, the eletrical infrastrucute and storm and sanitary sewers.
The completion of the health services and student counseling building should be in July of 2018.
