Dear Hamilton Community,
We hope you’ve all had a smooth start to your semester and haven’t been bogged down with too much work yet. With every newly completed lab report, essay and problem set, we come one day closer to fall break!
Whether or not your parents are visiting campus this weekend, we’re excited to see some new faces (especially canine) walking down Martin’s Way. Welcoming parents to our campus is a weekend for reflection and hope. As we guide our parents around the school, walk them through the Glenns, abashedly show them the state of our dorms and introduce them to friends new and old, let us remember where we come from, where we are and where we haven’t been but want to go.
Campus is packed with events, games and activities this weekend. Mark your planners on Saturday for a Men’s Rugby Match at 11:00 a.m., a college update from President Tepper at 11:15 a.m. in the Chapel, a Field Hockey game at 12:00 p.m., a Family Weekend Acapella Concert at 1:30 p.m. and a Latin Festival hosted by La Vanguardia at 5:00 p.m. in the Tolles Pavilion Annex among other equally fun events. On Sunday, look out for Women’s Rugby at 12 p.m. and a F.I.L.M event featuring the award-winning Anvil Orchestra in the KJ auditorium at 2:00 p.m.
For first-years, sharing your new home with parents can be as thrilling as it is daunting; for some, it’s a needed hello after a long separation, for others a long hello after a needed separation. Some sage advice from a few seasoned seniors: your parents will want to spend too much time roaming the campus store — let them (especially if you can get your hands on the new merch), take advantage of car privileges and snag a meal off campus so your stomach can get a well-deserved break from the Diner Guapo and make sure to include your friends who won’t have any visitors in your plans.
Sincerely,
The Spectator
