The women’s team has brought in ten first-years, and the men’s team added four. Both teams begin outdoor competition on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at Widener’s Danny Curran Invitational meet in Chester, P.A.
Softball
The softball team made changes to their coaching staff in the past offseason. The program’s assistant coach of two years, Stephanie Hartquist, was promoted to head coach in September 2018 and Emily Seidel was brought in as the assistant coach January 2019. The team brings back some of their most impactful players from last season, including Caitlin Berreitter ’20, who posted a .371 bat- ting average and slugged .552; Emily Fraser ’20, who led the team in runs batted in (25); and pitcher Helen Lin ’19, who had the highest number of strikeouts (20). The team’s first games of the season are a home doubleheader against Houghton College on Thursday, March 14. They then play 14 games, including one against NESCAC opponent Colby College, over spring break in Florida.
Baseball
The baseball team is coming off a 17–17 record in the 2018 season (4–8 NESCAC) and are preparing to face eight teams over the two weeks of spring break in Florida.
All of the opponents are non-conference except for Middlebury College, who they will face on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30.
Five seniors graduated in 2018, but the team has brought in nine first-years. They are returning one of last year’s captains, David Braverman ’19, and two 2018 All-NESCAC players, Matt Zaffino ’21 and pitcher Ian Nish ’19. Zaffino ended his first season with a .359 batting average and slugged .620, leading the team in home runs (3) and earning the program’s first NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor.
The team will play Southern Vermont College at home on Thursday, March 14 at 4:00 PM.
Women’s Lacrosse
Last spring, women’s lacrosse posted a 5–11 overall record (3–7 NESCAC), eventually falling to nationally-ranked Middlebury College in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinals. Men’s Lacrosse
The men’s lacrosse team has started the season strong and looks to build on their early momentum. The team graduated 11 seniors last season, during which they went 2–13 overall (0–10 NESCAC). However, their two leading point scorers of 2018, Chad Morse ’19 (26 goals, 7 assists) and Chris Conley ’20 (16 goals, 10 assists) are back for this season.

Both teams had impressive fall seasons, coming in either first, second, or third place in six of their respective tournaments. The women’s team came in 4th place in the NESCAC Championship. Although the men graduated one of their two 2018 All-NESCAC selections, they still have the other, Bobby Osborn ’20, and have added eight first years to the roster. The women’s team had two 2018 All-NESCAC selections and have also returned one, Celia Lau ’21. There are also three first-years on the women’s team.
