
The women’s hockey team won the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Championship quarterfinal in a thrilling fashion on Saturday, Feb. 29. Senior forward Michaela Giuttari ’20, who leads the NESCAC in game-winning goals, scored with 2.8 seconds left in the third period to secure a 4–3 victory against the Williams College. The other three Hamilton goals were scored by Maddie Hong ’23, Mya Berretta ’22, and Nancy Loh ’22. This was Loh’s 10th goal of the 2019–2020 season.
Sophomore goalie Sidney Molnar ’22 had a strong game for the Continentals, making 26 saves against the Ephs. Molnar has a .925 save percentage, only 1.56 average goals against per game, and is currently ranked third in the NESCAC with a .750 win percentage.
The team will travel to Middlebury College this weekend to face the number one seed and host: the Middlebury Panthers. They will play in the NESCAC semifinal at 1 P.M. on Saturday, March 7. If they are successful, they will play the winner of the 4 P.M. №2 Colby and №3 Amherst game.
The men’s hockey team also found success in the Russell Sage Rink on Saturday, Feb 29. The number three seed men’s team breezed past the number six seed Bowdoin Polar Bears with a 5–1 win. Hamilton was 7–2 in its last nine games, while the Polar Bears were hot off a three-game win streak.
The five goals were scored amongst four Hamilton players. Senior defensemen Bennett Morrison ’20 led the team with two goals, while Fred Allaire ’23, Jordi Jefferson ’22, and Cameron Radziwon ’20 each added one goal apiece for the Continentals. Seniors Nic Ursitti ’20 and Sterling Bray ’20 each earned two assists, along with one from both Allaire ’23 and Jefferson ’22.
The Continentals were not only an offense force on Saturday but also a defensive one. Goalie Sean Storr ’22 made 29 saves. This was Storr’s fifth straight start, and he has only allowed seven goals over the course of those games. He did not allow a goal until there was 6:29 to go in the last period.
The NESCAC men’s hockey championships will continue this weekend at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The Continentals will face-off against the eighth seed Trinity College Bantams this Saturday, March 7 at 1 P.M. If the team is victorious, they will play the winner of the 4 P.M. Wesleyan vs. Williams matchup at 2 P.M. on Sunday, March 8.
