The Hamilton community is looking forward to welcoming alumni, families, and prospective students to the campus for this year’s Fallcoming celebrations. The weekend of Oct. 25–28 is packed with a range of different events, including speakers, lectures, games, and fundraisers, as well as performances and receptions hosted by members of the College administration, sports teams, and clubs. On Thursday, Oct. 25, families can register for the weekend’s various events, pickup campus maps, check schedules, and enjoy refreshments. Classes on Thursday and Friday are open for parents and friends to attend. In addition, the Career Center will be hosting speeches by Kate Childs, a public relations executive, Geoff and Melanie Johnson, two doctors, and Amy Greenan, who will speak about her career in defense intelligence. On Thursday, off-campus guests will also get the chance to hear about the experiences of Michael Klosson ’71, who will recount his experiences working to aid humanitarian crises, a talk courtesy of the Levitt Center. There will also be chances for parents of current Hamilton students to explore career options for their children through the Career Center’s Find Yourself programs. For those more interested in a politically-based discussion, the second annual Common Ground speaker series event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, featuring two Hamilton alumni, Mike Dubke ’92 and Marc Elias ’90, who will speak about their careers in political communications and issues of polarization in America. The event will be moderated by journalist and independent communications consultant, Jackie Judd P’14.
Many academic departments and student organizations are looking to showcase their work to the weekend’s guests by offering workshops, tours, and fundraisers. The Career Center is hosting an open house on Friday. There will also be tours of the technology department of Burke Library, the Wellin Museum, and the long-awaited Center for Health and Wellness named for Reverend Dr. Beth Johnson P’93 and Joel W. Johnson ’65, P’93. Student organizations like Men of Hamilton Against Sexual Assault (MOHASA), Sexual Misconduct and Assault Reform Task-Force (SMART), and Sexual Assault Violence Education and Support (SAVES) are raising awareness and money for the Purple Ribbon Campaign, while the Microfinancing Club aims to donate funds to supporting small businesses in Oneida County by having participants guess the weight of a giant pumpkin. Guests are also welcome to attend numerous performances, including the Student Dance Alliance showcase, performances put on by the Hamilton College Choir and Department of Dance and Movement Studies, an a capella concert, and a jazz concert series, all on Friday, Oct. 26.
For guests looking to enjoy the outdoor features of the campus, guided Glen walks will be offered throughout Saturday, Oct. 27 led by the College’s Sustainability Coordinators. There are also multiple athletic events to attend. The men’s Rugby team will be having their championship game on Minor Field on Saturday. Other games that day include club hockey, football, volleyball, and club soccer games.
Of course, Fallcoming wouldn’t be Fallcoming without the celebration of members of the Hamilton community returning to campus and coming together once more. The Classes of 1969–1973 will be meeting on Friday to discuss their plans for their 50th reunions, while the Emerson Literary Society, HEOP, the Class of 1955, and members of the 1812 Leadership Circle will all welcome back alumni with reunions and shared meals. Guests are also welcome to share in the College’s appreciation for different departments around the school with the Back Our Blue athletics reception and joining current members of the Hamilton community to thank our alumni, friends, and family for their support and donations during the Because Hamilton event at halftime of the football game on Saturday.
Guests can view the full lineup of events under the Fall Weekend Schedule on the College website, hamilton.edu. The Hamilton community is excited to welcome its alumni, family, and friends for this annual weekend of celebration.
