Alison Brie has been in the eye of entertainment for some time, with roles in shows like
Community
and
Mad Men
, but recently it seems like her career is really starting to pick up. Brie went to college for acting, and during one summer worked with Central Casting and got placed as an extra in movies, her first leap into the industry. Before that, in what she referred to as her summer job for high school, she was a birthday clown in Compton. Brie was born and raised in Hollywood, California, and grew up with a musician as a father. She went on to study at the California Institute of the Arts, so she has been consistently surrounded by art and talent throughout her life.
Recently, Brie has appeared in Netflix features like
BoJack Horseman
, and
GLOW
(Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), and movies like
How to Be Single
and
Sleeping with Other People
. She has no illusions though that becoming famous happens overnight, and had a lot of smaller roles before landing her role on
Community
, including an appearance in the Disney Channel show
Hannah Montana
. She will also be performing in the new movie,
The Disaster Artist
(2017), along-side her husband, Dave Franco. I watched several interviews with Brie, and she has a vibrant personality. When I first looked up her name, the interviews that came up were mostly about her recent marriage to Franco and videos that Brie and Franco make together. However, Brie’s solo interviews are gripping and funny. In one interview, she discusses how she really was meant to play her character, Ruth, on
GLOW
. For the role, the actors auditioning were told to prepare a rap, a performance aspect necessary to being a gorgeous woman in wrestling, apparently. However, instead of preparing the rap like the other actors auditioning, Brie performed the rap song lyrics as a dramatic monologue. This, Brie believes, set her apart and ultimately played some part in landing her the role of Ruth, a high strung and struggling actress who does a very similar thing in preparing for an audition in the show.
In another interview, Brie discussed an experience she had with a stalker. She would continually come home to partially eaten food in her yard, and could not get to the bottom of who would place it there. Eventually, in typical Ruth fashion, Brie decided to stake out her front lawn to see if she could capture the culprit. She did stake it out, and came face to face with stalker — a coyote! Of course, Brie recounted this quirky story with charisma that my writing cannot do justice. During all the interviews I watched with her, Brie would slip in and out of different accents, changing the cadence of her voice in a really charming way. On screen, and in interviews, she holds herself in a very composed and professional way.
Still, in her more dramatic roles like
Sleeping with Other People
, she shines through with her own take on the characters. Look out for her upcoming film,
The Disaster Artist
, and the other projects that Brie will be involved in in the future!
