While the transition to remote learning has significantly changed academics at Hamilton, it has also changed college life. At home or on campus, many Hamilton students have found that social distancing and remote learning create an excess of free time without many of Hamilton’s extracurricular opportunities. Sadove Student Center already hosted two events, virtual bingo on Thursday, April 2 and virtual trivia this Tuesday, April 7. Students have also taken up or continued hobbies during their free time. Here are what some Hamilton students are up to:

Randy Tristant ’22:
Learning needlepoint.
“I’ve been learning it because it’s very soothing and good for destressing. Also good for people who fidget a lot.”

Eliza Glazer-Kshensky ’20:
Diagramless crossword puzzles.
“They give you only the clues and their numbers, the dimensions of the grid, the symmetry of the grid and the starting 1 box. Then you fill in the answers as well as the rest of the numbers and the black boxes.”

Izzy Rutkey ’22: Baking.
“I have a baking business and have been supplying the dessert for a food truck among other orders. My Facebook page is Izzy’s Sweet Treats.”

Ryan Mayhan ’22: Learning an instrument.
“I’ve been learning the drums and playing video games.”

Jay Carhart ’21: Knitting and papier-mâché.
“I was going to try knitting, but then I couldn’t find my second needle. So now I’m doing
papier-mâché
in an attempt to recreate my friends.”
Eva Nolan ’22: Knitting with humor.
“Knit my sweater but I had so much time, it got so long that it engulfed me. Now I can’t get out. Please help.”
Whether you are taking up new hobbies, revisiting old hobbies, or joining virtual student center events, it is important to use your time to keep up with yourself and others.
