The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is bringing the comedian Chloe Hilliard to campus on Tuesday, April 17. The opener, who is yet to be announced, will go on at 8pm in the Fillius Events Barn. Hilliard was originally supposed to perform on campus in September, but she cancelled, due to an unexpected opportunity to collaborate on a project with Kevin Hart.
Chloe Hilliard grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. and uses material from her upbringing in her comedy. Growing up in a Hasidic Jewish neighborhood, she often jokes about believing she was Jewish until her thirteenth birthday when she received the news that she was not.
She talks about wanting people to walk away from her shows just having appreciated and connected with the humor. Hilliard started her career in journalism and enjoys using comedy to connect with her audience through multiple channels. She has performed her comedy on multiple television shows, including the hit NBC show “Last Comic Standing
.”
During an interview with Harry Connick Jr., Hilliard reveals that she has been her current height (6’1”) since she was twelve years old. Hilliard uses herself and her own experience to tell jokes in a very affable and humorous way. I watched a lot of her stand up videos while sitting in the KJ atrium, and she has a way of delivering jokes that keeps her audience interested and engaged in the story she’s telling. Her content is different and exciting: I cannot wait to see the routine that she brings to campus on April 17.
She also has a podcast on Soundcloud, called “Social Misfit with Chloe Hilliard.” On the podcast she hosts guests, and does some self-promotion for her stand-up routines. She will be opening for Russell Peters at the Comedy Zone in Charlotte, North Carolina, from April 12 to 14.
She tells stories about growing up, family, dating, and her own future. Everything she talks about is extremely topical and relatable. All of the topics she covers provoke huge responses of laughter and encourage from the audience, so this bodes well for her CAB performance in a couple of weeks.
