Fall sports are in full swing, as every varsity team has now competed in at least one competitive event. With many fall teams off to terrific starts, here are some of the game-changing individual highlights from around the fields and courts over the past week.

Women’s Soccer: Rylie Mutton ’23
Mutton found the back of the net in the 93rd minute to give the women’s soccer team a golden-goal upset on the road against nationally ranked #4 Amherst on Saturday. Mutton finished the week’s games with two goals and one assist, setting up Olivia Morrow ’24 earlier in the Amherst game as the team’s 2–1 victory put them at the top of the NESCAC standings. Mutton followed up that performance with the team’s second of three goals in a shutout win against Union on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Mutton was also named Women’s Soccer Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

Men’s Soccer: Luke O’Dowd ’25
The men’s soccer team battled to a 0–1–1 week against some stiff competition. On the road against the defending national finalists Amherst, the team put up a resilient defensive effort, anchored in the back by Matt Jordan ’22 and Nate Gegwich ’23, but fell 1–0 to the Mammoths. On Tuesday, Sept. 21, O’Dowd notched his first career goal against Ithaca. Moving forward from the right back position, O’Dowd hammered home a loose ball on the back post to give the Continentals a 1–0 first-half lead. The game ultimately ended in a 1–1 draw.

Field Hockey: Maura Holden ’23
Holden found the net twice in a week when the field hockey team went 1–1 overall. Already up 1–0 on a Lexi Takishima ’22 goal against Saint Lawrence, Holden put away what would end up being the game-winner in the 35th minute; the team would go on to cruise to a 4–1 victory with additional tallies from Tracey Stafford ’23 and Emma Liebegott ’22. Holden finished off the week with another goal against Amherst in a 3–1 loss.

Men’s Golf: Billy Geach ’23
Geach’s efforts led the men’s golf team to a sixth-place overall finish in the Williams Invitational at Taconic Golf Club this past weekend. The squad finished third among the ten NESCAC teams competing at the event. Geach carded a 75 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday to finish +10 for the event, tying for 21st overall. The team sat at third overall after strong, consistent Saturday rounds and managed to beat out several NESCAC rivals. Teammate Tommy Kantaros ’24 also finished at +10 during the weekend.

Women’s Golf: Emily Moy ’22
The women’s golf team competed in the George Phinney Golf Classic at Middlebury’s Ralph Myrhe Golf Course this weekend. Moy led the charge, carding consecutive rounds of 83 and 81 to finish 22nd out of 68 competitors. The team finished sixth out of 12 teams, and fourth-best among NESCAC schools.

Women’s Tennis: Hannah Apsey ’25
Apsey had a phenomenal weekend as the women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Northeast Regionals at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Apsey reached the semifinals in both the singles and doubles draws, partnering with Lauren Holtzman ’23 in doubles play. Apsey had to battle throughout the single-elimination tournament; three of her four wins came in three sets, including an impressive 4–6, 6–2, 6–4 comeback against Skidmore’s Lily Feldman in the quarterfinals. Apsey and Holtzman cruised through their first three matches before falling in the doubles semifinals to the eventual champion pairing from NYU.

Volleyball: Kate Carmen ’24
Women’s volleyball enjoyed a 2–0 week with two straight-set victories, including an important NESCAC win on the road against Trinity. Carmen led the team with 20 kills over the two matches. Melissa Morelli ’24 was given credit for 50 assists across the two matches, setting the table for an overpowering Hamilton attack. Against Trinity, the team battled to a tight 25–23 win in the first set, setting up a 3–0 sweep. With a hot start to the season at 5–1, the team heads to Williams this weekend for another key NESCAC matchup.
