The women’s soccer team remains undefeated this season after an exciting weekend. They are now 4–0–3 on the season with a conference record of 2–0–3. This puts them in contention for a Top-25 ranking next week. The Continentals started the weekend at unranked Tufts. It was set to be a difficult matchup, as both teams were considered top teams in the division. The teams had met 13 times prior, with the Tufts Jumbos having a 7–3–3 lead in lifetime meetings, but in the last four games Hamilton has dominated, going 2–0–2.
The weather conditions were rough at the beginning of the game, but that did not stop the Jumbos as they fired three shots in the first nine minutes. Hamilton’s Nieve Tonna ’26 made two saves with third shot flying wide to the left. Position went back and forth with neither team getting any good chances until Hamilton’s Olivia Zubarik ’25 had a solid scoring chance 27 minutes into the opening half, but Tufts’ Gigi Edwards ’27 secured the save for the Jumbos. The match started physical and continued to be so as the teams ended with a combined 30 fouls. Just over half an hour into the game, Tufts took a 1–0 lead on a contested goal by Thalia Greenberg ’24 that was assisted by Emily Nicholas ’27. Hamilton’s Olivia Morrow ’24 almost evened the score in the 36th minute on a shot that hit the right post.
Halftime allowed for both teams to regroup, and much of the second half was a stalemate. With just nine minutes remaining, though, Maddie Ledbury ’26 tied the score. This was her first goal of the season and her eighth in her college career. The Continentals earned a corner kick and Ledbury connected on a header that flew into the right side of the net past a diving Edwards. Zubarik picked up an assist, her second of the season and seventh in her career. After a few minutes of extra time, the whistle blew and the game ended in a 1–1 tie. Hamilton and Tufts recorded 13 shots apiece and both teams created four corner kick opportunities. Tonna recorded five saves in the first half and tied a season high with eight total for the Continentals. Tufts’ Edwards tallied five saves. Hamilton’s seniors led the offensive with Erin Rayhill ’25 leading the team in shots with four and Zubarik leading in shots on goal with two.

The Continentals’ next match was against Wesleyan, who have a national ranking of 21. Hamilton went 1–0–2 against ranked opponents. Wesleyan got off to a good start, getting aggressive in Hamilton’s half with a shot, which went wide right and had a corner within the first five minutes. Hamilton returned with some early opportunities only a few minutes later, with shots by Marrow, Rayhill and Ryan Manning ’27. The Continentals came up short and allowed a breakaway to the Cardinals that ended with a shot on goal by newly subbed in Catherine Gallagher ’26, though it was saved by Tonna. Thirty minutes into the game, the Cardinals got two more good chances to score before Kelly Grossman ’24 scored the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute. She was unassisted and this was both her first goal of the season and of her three-year career with the Continentals. Hamilton did not back down and fired repeated shots that were all saved by Juliette Vemmer ’25 in the following minutes to end the half.
The Continentals got off to a hot start to the second half with multiple shots and a pair of corners. The offensive efforts paid off in the 66th minute with a goal by Morrow, her second of the season. She was assisted by Rayhill, who recorded her third assist of the fall. The Continentals controlled the ball for the remainder of the game. In the last three minutes, Wesleyan got their best chance to get one back with some shots on goal, but Tonna made multiple saves, including one off a corner. The game ended 2–0 with the Continentals on top. Tonna ended the game with six saves and Rayhill led the team in both shots (nine) and shots on goal (three). This was Wesleyan’s first loss of the season.
The Continentals will play Connecticut College at home on Sept. 30 at 11:00 a.m. before the team’s next trip up north for a weekend in Maine where they will soon play Bates and Colby.
