Michaela Giuttari ’20 recently became both the all-time leading goal scorer in Hamilton field hockey history and the all-time leading points holder in Hamilton field hockey history.
In the last two weeks, she moved into the record books with 54 goals and 131 points and can pad her lead with at least two games left to play in her career.
Giuttari first picked up a field hockey stick in her junior year of high school at the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut. Since then, she has flourished on the turf. Her first year at Hamilton garnered her both NESCAC and national attention. She won NESCAC Rookie of the Year with a stat line of 14 goals and 8 assists, a total of 36 points. She also earned New England West Region Second Team honors.
After a successful first-year campaign that landed her a spot on the list of Hamilton field hockey’s most points in a single season (third, with 36 points), she continued her success in her sophomore season. Giuttari started in all 15 games, scored 18 goals and tallied 3 assists for a total of 39 points. The impressive numbers propelled her to First Team All-NESCAC, New England West Region First Team, and Second Team NFHCA All-American honors.
Giuttari continued to put up dominant numbers in her junior season with 16 goals and 7 assists for 39 points. Subsequently, she received all the same honors as during her sophomore season.
Giuttari has done more for the team and program than just put up incredible numbers and game winners, though; she has also provided vital leadership both on the field, leading by example, as well as vocally, constantly cheering on and supporting her teammates.
This leadership certainly did not go unnoticed; she was voted one of the team’s captains for her 2019 senior season. Though the season has resulted in a number of overtime losses, the team has been steadily improving and rallied to qualify for the NESCAC tournament.
Giuttari is ready to lead her team into the final stretch of the season and is looking to prolong her career with a deep run in the NESCAC tournament.
Giuttari has had an immeasurable impact on the Hamilton field hockey team as well as the program. Also a member of the women’s hockey team, she still has another season of play left ahead of her and looks to continue her athletic achievements on the ice.
Hamilton field hockey’s next game is Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 5PM on Goodfriend Field against University of Rochester.
