In close competition with New Year’s Eve, the Fourth of July, and St. Patrick’s Day, Halloweekend is arguably the most active party weekend of the year. Something about the combination of skimpy costumes and the impending freeze of winter on the horizon makes many adults around the world have an insatiable desire to drink way too much.
Halloween can, of course, be a very fun but potentially dangerous weekend, so to all the readers intent on drinking this weekend, please be careful. Nothing can ruin the Halloweekend like a trip to the emergency room.
That being said, here is a guide to making a Halloween party live up to the hype.
Think drinking Keystone out of an orange is festive? Up your game. It’s Halloween, one of the few nights of the year that you can be as extra as you want with absolutely no consequences. Try your hand at bartending by making some of these drinks or cocktails (only if you are 21 — proper I.D. required):
Festive for Everyone
Blood punch:
Pour a bottle of your favorite fruit punch or cranberry juice into a large bowl. Make sure to get sweetened cranberry juice, because there is a big difference. Fill a latext glove with water and then pop it in the freezer. When it is time to serve the punch, pull the glove off of the frozen hand and drop it in the bowl. If you reall want to go all out, slice some blood oranges and add them to the mix.
Green Grog:
This is not for the squeamish. If you are fearless and have acquired a taste for sour things, then this one is for you. Fill a bowl with two cans of frozen limeade and 2 cans of frozen lemonade and a bottle of a carbonated lime-flavored drink. Mix in some lime sherbet and you have yourself a gooey concoction that is fit for Halloween horrors.
21+ Drinks
Jekyll and Gin:
Shake some gin, lemon juice, and grenadine. Top with tonic water and garnish with a glow stick for what can only be described as a “rave in a cup.”
Goth Lemonade:
Pour 1.5 ounces of Tito’s Handmade Vodka into a glass over ice. Wash it with 3 ounces of lemonade and top the whole thing off with ¼ teaspoon of activated charcoal to create the creepy goth drink of the century. Seriously. The whole drink is jet black but tastes like lemonade. It’s nuts.
The Smoke and Mirrors:
If you can get your hands on some dry ice, do it. Shake together 4 oz. of gin, 2 oz. of pomegranate juice, and 1 oz. of simple syrup. Then drop a cube of dry ice in and watch it create an eerie, smoky effect that is sure to make everyone at your party ask, “where did you find dry ice?”
Fun and Games
And what is Halloween without a few games? Make halloweekend special with some certifiably spooky games. As always, alcohol is an option, but these are challenge by choice. You can have just as much fun not drinking.
In fact, if you do not drink or are under 21, there are still fun drinking games for you.
Monster Mash:
A version of the classic game “Roxanne.” Put on the song “Monster Mash” and divide the guests of your party into two teams, one for “monster” one for “mash.” Each time your team’s word is sung in the song, everyone on your team drinks. Be careful with this one.
Speak No Evil:
Create a list of banned words and post them on the wall of your room. If someone at the party utters one of these words, they drink. The more common the word, the harder the game.
Bobbing for Hangovers:
Fill a tub with water, apples, and miniature liquor bottles. Go bobbing for whatever you prefer, and eat/drink what you catch. Whether you choose to partake in this coming weekend’s festivities or not, please make sure that you and your friends are safe. Nothing ruins a night like drinking too much, so be careful, know your limits, and do not be afraid to say no to drinking if you are not comfortable with it.
